30 DAY SONG CHALLENGE
Day 3: A song that reminds you of a certain event.
Hometown Glory - Adele
Every song reminds me of a certain event but this was a very significant one. It was during the December 2010 lunar eclipse and I was at a party. At around 2 am my friends and I sat on the lawn and stared at the sky for a solid hour while we waited for the eclipse. Nothing special happened (well, besides the astronomical phenomenon) yet I enjoyed that moment for some reason. I guess it was the fact that my friend had put Hometown Glory on replay and it kept playing during the hour that we sat there. (I’d been a fan of Adele since her first album 19, and this was way before 21 exploded in the charts).
Looking at the sky and listening to Adele’s voice singing:
Round my hometown/Memories are fresh/Round my hometown/Ooh the people I’ve met/Are the wonders of my world
had an effect on me. I was a high school senior at the time with plans to leave my hometown, unlike most of my friends. It made me think about all that I was going to leave behind but I knew I had to move on.
Alas, I don’t think I’m ever going to listen to that song and not remember that eclipse.
